This section summarizes The Network's Research activities including the people and partners involved. Our MyProject reporting system allows Web visitors to view each Network funded research project and current outcomes. A searchable directory of researchers, students and research staff is available through our myProfile system. This directory facilitates communications between research groups and organizations who are national experts on various language and literacy topics. Included in this focus area is current information and links to The Network's and partner organizations' funding opportunities.

The Network's multidisciplinary research program integrates contributions from the many sectors involved in children's language and literacy development, including basic and applied scientists, educators, clinicians, students, parents and caregivers, and industrial and government partners. The Network covers the full spectrum of literacy and language research through more than 40 current projects, organized into the following five research themes plus core facilities:

  • Biological Factors underlying the Development of Language and Literacy Skills
  • Sensory Processes and Environment
  • Language Development
  • Literacy Development
  • Social Context: Families, School and Communities
  • Core Facilities
