On September 22 and 23, 2001, over 50 researchers and invited guests descended on London, Ontario for The Canadian Language and Literacy Research Network's first Project Leader's retreat. The weekend event, held at Spencer Hall estates in London, gave the participants the opportunity to network, discuss strategic issues and simply meet each other for the first time. Photos of the event and some of the participants are available.
Saturday's agenda started with an excellent overview of the Networks Centres of Excellence Program. Mr. Jean-Claude Gavrel, Director of the NCE program, outlined the strategic role the NCEs play in the Federal Government's overall research and innovation agenda. Jean-Claude's slide presentation is posted. Louise Poulin, our NCE Program Officer, followed Jean-Claude and detailed the review process that The Network will be subject to over the next seven years. The remainder of the day was spent by introducing each Project Leader, and their specific projects.
Sunday's agenda focused on strategic issues of concern to The Network. Issues discussed were development of a Highly Qualified Personnel program; access and use of the Core Facilities and how to build effective partnerships. Each of our presenters has provided us with their slides. Anyone interested in seeing the presentations can find them linked on the agenda web page.
