Biography:

When children read aloud, they are judged not only by their intelligibility and fluency, but by how the sound of their voices makes the listeners feel. My laboratory reserach focuses on measuring and understanding how the quality of children's voices can influence the way teachers and peers think, feel, and react. As Director of Research Works! for child literacy, I work with a multidisciplinary team to develop research products useful for community literacy programs and on-line learning. Finally, in the Canadian Centre for Knowledge Mobilisation we are creating innovative and efficient tools, techniques, and products to bring information and knowledge to those who serve the educational welfare of Canadian children: parents, policy makers, and practitioners.
