Report on Project Leader's Retreat, including photos and MS Powerpoint Presentations

On September 22 and 23, 2001, over 50 researchers and invited guests met in London, Ontario for the Canadian Language and Literacy's first Project Leader's retreat. The weekend event, held at Spencer Hall estates in London, gave the participants the opportunity to network, discuss strategic issues and simply meet each other for the first time. Photos of the event and some of the participants are available.

Saturday's agenda started with an excellent overview of the Networks Centres of Excellence Program. Mr. Jean-Claude Gavrel, Director of the NCE program, outlined the strategic role the NCEs play in the Federal Government's overall research and innovation agenda. Jean-Claude's presentation is posted on The Network Web site. Louise Poulin, our NCE Program Officer, followed Jean-Claude and detailed the review process that The Network will be subject to over the next seven years. The remainder of the day was spent by introducing each of the Project Leader's and their specific projects.

Sunday's agenda focused on strategic issues of concern to the Network. Issues such as the development of a Highly Qualified Personnel program; access and use of the Core Facilities and how to build effective partnerships were discussed. Each of our presenters has provided us with their slides for future reference. Anyone interested in seeing the presentations can find them linked on the agenda web page.
