Canada Reads 2002 - Announces Novel that All of Canada Should Read

excerpt from CBC Radio Web site.

Ever been 'In the Skin of a Lion'?
Barenaked Lady Steven Page nominated Michael Ondaatje's great novel to be the book that all of Canada should read together. It's a story about the lives of immigrants who built a city in the early part of the 20th Century and it is the book that all of Canada should read. It's about love and hate, politics and anarchy, rich and poor.

For five days, the lead singer of the Barenaked Ladies launched a passionate crusade in defence of his choice for Canada Reads. From the beginning, he believed it would be an uphill battle to convince people that the entire country should read a book set in the city Canadians love to hate, Toronto. But, in the end, Steven eloquently argued that 'In the Skin of a Lion' is not a book about Toronto. It's a compelling story about the human experience.
