Call for Presenters Second Canadian Conference on Literacy
and Health

The Canadian Language and Literacy Research Network is pleased to announce that our Network is a silver conference sponsor of Staying the Course - Literacy and Health in the First Decade (established by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada and the National Literacy and Health Program, Canadian Public Health Association). The conference takes place October 17-19, 2004 in Ottawa, Ontario.

Please visit the conference’s Web site http://www.cpha.ca/literacyandhealth/and download their Invitation to Presenters as the Canadian Language and Literacy Research Network would like to see our members and affiliate organizations represented in the presenter line-up.

Your application(s) must be received by May 14, 2004.

If you are a successful applicant to the Second Canadian Conference on Literacy and Health please inform the Canadian Language and Literacy Research Network of your selection.

The conference focuses on four themes:

1. Building Best Practices in Literacy and Health
2. Focusing on Language and Culture
3. Building Knowledge in Literacy and Health
4. Building Healthy Public Policy

This Second Canadian Conference on Literacy and Health provides a national forum to discuss the contributions being made to improve the health of Canadians with low literacy skills. This event will identify effective health interventions, advance the skills of literacy practitioners, identify policy issues, and highlight Canadian best practices and research. It will build upon the First Canadian Conference on Literacy and Health, held in 2000, which focused Canadian attention to this critical issue.

This event will bring together learners, practitioners and leading experts from Canada and the United States to present the latest perspectives on issues affecting literacy and health.
