Manager of Research Services
The University of Ontario Institute of Technology is seeking a Manager, Research Services who will manage the operations of the Office of Research Services. Reporting to the Associate Provost (Research and Graduate Programs), the Manager will identify research funding opportunities through the use of electronic and other research tools, through contacts inside and outside the university; act as liaison with granting councils to stay abreast of late-breaking information on programs, including individual program guidelines, deadlines and eligibility rules, and information on related tax incentives.
She/he will assist with the negotiation of research grants and contracts with external agencies, on behalf of the university; assist with the monitoring of contracts and grants for individual faculty members and Schools; work with Deans and faculty to bring forward effective proposals which build on the research strengths and priorities identified through academic planning and research marketing; facilitate the development of research project proposals and provide logistical support to develop the proposal (multi-disciplinary, inter-institutional, university-industry, international); develop, implement, and maintain procedures, systems and processes for research file management, retention policy, and release of information guidelines; work with individual researchers to ensure compliance with university, government, and agency research policies and procedures; provide administrative support for research-related committees including ethics review process; organize research information sessions and workshops; assist the Provost with special projects and initiatives (e.g., drafting policies, reviewing procedures, creating of information materials) and coordinate special projects, conduct research and analysis as needed, identify trends and prepare related reports.
The Manager will also be responsible for conducting institutional research as required.
The ideal candidate will have an advanced university degree, preferably a doctorate,
in a relevant discipline. Minimum five years of experience within a research setting.
She/he will possess strong written and verbal communications skills as well as computer skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to speak with confidence are required. The ability to make highly professional written and personal presentations is important, as is the ability to mediate and move effectively between Schools and within the university. Strong understanding of the importance of research in a university setting and knowledge of the programs of the Schools is a definite asset. A thorough awareness of potential research funding, a superior level of initiative and judgment and the ability to manage competing priorities are required.
The appointment is a maternity leave replacement until April 15, 2005.
