I am an educational psychologist, with specific research interests in the development of reading ability. My current research concerns 4 factors associated with reading success: phonological awareness, naming speed, orthographic processing, and morphological awareness. My degrees are from McGill (BA in Psychology) and Alberta (PhD in Educational Psychology). I have worked at the University of Newcastle, Australia (1976-87) and Queen's University (1987-present).

The language and culture of my heritage is passed on to me orally. it's a different way off learning than how I am taught at school. How do I keep my traditional culture alive while learning to read and being immersed in the majority culture?

Reading is the core of learning and staying in school . improving reading skills with young Aboriginal children can open up the doors to future prospects.
