Pre-Conference Education and Early Childhood Development Seminars
This year, The Network increasing its engagement with the community by scheduling two pre-conference seminars for educators and practitioners in early childhood and K-12. These half-day sessions will occur on Saturday, June 9. See full conference programme for complete details.
Each seminar will include presentations, panel discussions and workshops from experts in childhood language and literacy in education and early childhood development sectors. Everyone is welcome to attend these seminars. However, we encourage teachers, principals, school administrators, early childhood development workers and others to attend these seminars which have been specifically designed with their experiences and interests in mind.
The Pre-Conference Seminar on Early Childhood Development is supported by the Language and Literacy: From Birth ... For Life project, a collaboration between the Canadian Child Care Federation and the Canadian Language and Literacy Research Network, with funding assistance from Human Resources and Social Development Canada. Participants in this seminar will receive a reduced registration fee and will recieve a complementary copy of the Language and Literacy: From Birth ... For Life Resource Kit.

Symposium on Family Literacy
The conference will feature a half-day symposium on Family Literacy on Sunday, June 10. This event will include an opening plenary session with a keynote address, a 4-member panel discussion and a workshop – all focused on the successes, challenges and goals of family literacy and the impact on policy and practice.
Symposium on Aboriginal Literacy
On Monday, June 11 a half-day symposium on Aboriginal Literacy will examine evidence-based methods and initiatives designed to improve policy and practice in the advancement of Aboriginal literacy. This symposium will include an opening plenary session with a keynote address, a panel discussion and a workshop.
“Language and literacy: from birth… for life” Resource Kit Launch
The Network, along with the Canadian Child Care Federation, is pleased to present the western Canadian launch of a resource kit specifically for use by practitioners in child care settings. This resource kit contains a paper that brings together the latest research on emergent literacy, along with six resource sheets intended to bring to life the findings outlined in the research paper. The kit also contains a list of recommended language and literacy resources, as well as a series of six PowerPoint workshops. The launch of “Language and literacy: from birth… for life” will take place on Monday, June 11.
