The seminar was put on by The Canadian Language and Literacy Research Network, The Hanen Provincial Preschool Speech & Language Initiative, the University of Toronto.
The half-day seminar, which is being held at the University of Toronto, was attended by 86 speech language pathologists, educators and child care staff members.
At the seminars, participants learned:
- the characteristics of optimal adult-child interactions;
- how shared book reading can enhance language development and early literacy skills;
- how to accommodate and adapt strategies to best meet the needs of children from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Three additional presentations of this popular seminar are being scheduled for September and October of 2004. One of these will take place in Toronto, and the other two will happen in Northern Ontario. Please register early as there are already 200 applicants registered.
