2003 Network funding announcement draws great media coverage

These Network researchers from the University of Victoria enjoyed tremendous media attention when the funding announcement was made for their research project, Literacy Development through Video Game Experience. Shown above, from left to right, are researchers Christopher Lalonde, Daniel Bub and Mike Masson.

When the Network issued its 2003 funding details in a media release on January 20, 2003, it was hoped that regional media outlets would pick it up and run with it. Working in partnership with Industry Canada, The Network also utilized its 26-member institutions, through their university public affairs departments, and local Member of Parliament to organize the release and get the word out. Pick up of the news across the country was extremely successful, especially for one particular project. The media really keyed in on the Network research project based at the University of Victoria, called Literacy Development through Video Game Experience, which garnered the lion's share of coverage. Below is a list of media that covered the 2003 funding announcement.
