Entries for the 2003 Canada Post Literacy Awards are now being accepted. Two of the award categories may apply to Network members or associates: Educator Awards and Community Leadership Awards.
Educator Awards honour both English and French-speaking educators, including tutors and advocates of literacy. Any Canadian who supports literacy through teaching skills, working within communities to improve literacy or by developing initiatives to fight illiteracy are eligible to be nominated.
Community Leadership Awards recognize non-profit, volunteer and labour organizations that have taken steps to further the cause of literacy, including innovation, achievement, leadership and organizational excellence. Organizations that may be nominated must be both registered and active in Canada, and literacy initiatives must have been fully operational for a minimum of three years.
Other award categories include: Individual Achievement Awards and the Business Leadership Award. All nominations must be submitted no later than May 30, 2003.
The Canada Post Literacy Awards were created in 1993 and are the only national awards dedicated to recognizing and celebrating grass roots literacy initiatives and the achievements of those working to improve their own literacy skills and those that help others.
