Biography:

I have been working as a research assistant to Professor Mary Ann Evans, of the University of Guelph, since May 2005 and also completed my honour's thesis under her supervision. I have since graduated with my bachelor's degree, but am continuing my work with Dr. Evans. I assist with the transcription of parent-child book reading sessions for Dr. Evans' longitudinal "From Reading To To Reading With" study. I am also involved in coding completed transcripts, data entry, and data collection in the form of home observations and school testing sessions. My thesis examined the narrative skills of shy and non-shy senior kindergarten children, as well as the impact of parental scaffolding on children's narrative performance.

The language and culture of my heritage is passed on to me orally. it's a different way off learning than how I am taught at school. How do I keep my traditional culture alive while learning to read and being immersed in the majority culture?

Reading is the core of learning and staying in school . improving reading skills with young Aboriginal children can open up the doors to future prospects.
