Biography: Lindsay joined the CLLRNet team as a Knowledge Officer in January of 2007. She has a background in Linguistics, Psychology, and Education and recently completed her Master of Education at Queen’s University, focusing on literacy acquisition and formative assessment of reading intervention for French Immersion students. As a CLLRNet Knowledge Officer, she has been working with a team of researchers and experienced practitioners on a review of the Ontario Ministry of Education’s Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat; her next project is a Numeracy Resource Kit for educators of preschool and elementary students. |
The language and culture of my heritage is passed on to me orally. it's a different way of learning than how I am taught at school. How do I keep my traditional culture alive while learning to read and being immersed in the majority culture?
Reading is the core of learning and staying in school. Improving my reading skills will open up the doors to future prospects.
