Biography:

Melanie joined the CLLRNet team in September 2008 as the Communications Officer. She is responsible for implementing the Network’s communications strategy and manages all external and internal communications. Melanie came to CLLRNet from IKEA North York, where she held the position of PR/Marketing Specialist with a focus on internal communications. She has previous experience in public relations and event planning for the consumer, not-for-profit and healthcare sectors. Melanie holds a B.Sc. in Honors Kinesiology and a B.Ed. from The University of Western Ontario and has a Certificate in Public Relations from Humber College.

The language and culture of my heritage is passed on to me orally. it's a different way of learning than how I am taught at school. How do I keep my traditional culture alive while learning to read and being immersed in the majority culture?

Reading is the core of learning and staying in school. Improving my reading skills will open up the doors to future prospects.
