Karen joined the team in August 2007 as Program Officer. Her responsibilities include working with several Network committees to implement The Network’s research and training programs and coordinating the Network Centres of Excellence statistical reporting requirements. Karen came to The Network from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care where she was responsible for the planning and administration of the Compliance Program. Prior to that, she was a Research Assistant with the Thames Valley District Health Council. Karen holds a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree from The University of Western Ontario.

The language and culture of my heritage is passed on to me orally. it's a different way off learning than how I am taught at school. How do I keep my traditional culture alive while learning to read and being immersed in the majority culture?

Reading is the core of learning and staying in school . improving reading skills with young Aboriginal children can open up the doors to future prospects.
