Biography: I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at McMaster University, with a minor in Linguistics.I am now in the first year of an M.A. Special Education Program in the Educational Psychology and Leadership Studies Department at the University of Victoria. My general interest is in literacy development across different cultures. The research I will be working on at UVic regards the study of literacy-based learning difficulties in ESL students. I will be working under the supervision of Dr. Gina Harrison. Future Interests: Not available. |
The language and culture of my heritage is passed on to me orally. it's a different way off learning than how I am taught at school. How do I keep my traditional culture alive while learning to read and being immersed in the majority culture?
Reading is the core of learning and staying in school . improving reading skills with young Aboriginal children can open up the doors to future prospects.
