Biography: I am enrolled in a 2-year Clinical Masters program in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Toronto. I hold an undergraduate degree in Linguistics (University of Toronto), and have work experience in the speech technology sector (text-to-speech and spech recognition). "Take AACtion!" (S. Green, A. Kelly, & P. Rahn, 2005), a website addressing faciltitation of communication with persons who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), is available at www.speakingdifferently.org. The language and culture of my heritage is passed on to me orally. it's a different way off learning than how I am taught at school. How do I keep my traditional culture alive while learning to read and being immersed in the majority culture?
Reading is the core of learning and staying in school . improving reading skills with young Aboriginal children can open up the doors to future prospects.
