Biography: I hold a B.A. with Honors, Major in Modern languages (English and Spanish, University of Antioquia, 1996 and an M.ed. in Second Language Education, OISE/UT, 2002. I am a first year D.Ed. student in Second Language Education and Comparative International Development Education at OISE/UT.My research interests are in language and literacy development among bilingual learners. Since 2001 I have been working as a research assistant and project coordinator for Dr. Geva in her ESL At-Risk Research project. In August 2003 I joined Dr. Jared's team to coordinate the Toronto site of the research project; Understanding Reading Development in Second Lnaguage Learners. The participants at the Toronto site are from Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese language background. Future Interests: Not available. |
The language and culture of my heritage is passed on to me orally. it's a different way off learning than how I am taught at school. How do I keep my traditional culture alive while learning to read and being immersed in the majority culture?
Reading is the core of learning and staying in school . improving reading skills with young Aboriginal children can open up the doors to future prospects.
